Merry Christmas From Justin and Amy

December 23rd, 2006 | Add a comment

Its that time of year again. Sixteen million shoppers, plus tourists, try to cram into a small island just to shop. I try to avoid that by going into my winter hibernation and create something cool for everyone for the holidays. For the past three years Amy and I have been trying to top each year with a better online Christmas card. Now that I look at the third version I started to notice that all of them has a New York theme. This year is no different but more for those that do not really live in the Big Apple.

For this years card: Happy Holidays 2006

The Results Are In

December 13th, 2006 | 2 comments

Yes, the time has come to reveal the results for my online survey. First I want to thank the four people that actually participated. You guys deserve my thanks. As for the rest of you (I know that there are eight other people that receive updates about my blog) four results are not enough data for anything. However from the four that responded your suggestion were excellent. I got a better understanding of what you would like to see and soon I plan to give it to you. There has been a voice for more reviews for movies, books, and other things. That you will get because you are the loyal readers.

I am also currently testing a new feature and hope that you use it. Some responses asked for an option to subscribe to comments that are left for a particular post. You will see a check box at the bottom of the comment form. If you would like to be notified when someone adds a comment to the post click the check box before you hit the submit button. The rest is straight forward. Since I am testing it please leave any bugs as comments to this post.

For Those That Like Subtitles

December 6th, 2006 | 3 comments

I consider Janus Films the ones who brought culture to America. Others would consider them the ones that opened our eyes to international directors like Ingmar Bergman and Federico Fellini. If you truly love movies then you will have to buy Essential Art House - 50 Years of Janus Films. It includes 50 of possibly the best movies ever made and a lavishly illustrated hardcover book that tells the story of Janus Films through an essay by film historian Peter Cowie, a tribute from Martin Scorsese, and notes on each of the fifty films. Janus brought films like The Seventh Seal, Seven Samurai, and The Lady Vanishes to America and were all films that set the bar for American directors. Now the price tag seems a little extreme at $650 USD but thats only $12 a movie. If you are a true film historian, future director or don’t mind subtitles then its well worth the price.
