As you may know, every year I make an interactive holiday card for everyone. This year it had to be late. In December, I was kicking around an idea that would incorporate some of the new A.I that I have been playing with. While at work, I shared the idea and my coworkers loved it. They loved it so much that they wanted it too. So for the past few months I have been scrambling to put together a combined mine/company christmas card by trying to breathe life into one of our coworkers. I am aware that questions are starting to form in your mind because of my last statement. All will be answered once you go to the site.
Here it is: Talk to Dewey
Happy late holiday’s.

Finally. I was afraid that I was the only one. Nicholas Carr wrote an interesting piece in the Atlantic Monthly, stating that his ever increasing dependance of the quick speedy information highway is making him stupid. Mainly it is chipping away at his capacity for concentration and contemplation and that it may have an affect on our future society.
In Plato’s Phaedrus, Socrates bemoaned the development of writing. He feared that, as people came to rely on the written word as a substitute for the knowledge they used to carry inside their heads, they would, in the words of one of the dialogue’s characters, “cease to exercise their memory and become forgetful.” And because they would be able to “receive a quantity of information without proper instruction,” they would “be thought very knowledgeable when they are for the most part quite ignorant.” They would be “filled with the conceit of wisdom instead of real wisdom.”
Sadly I have to agree with him. I barely made it through his five page article. These days I have trouble digging deep into a book, thinking that in my mind I can just hit command+F and do a search for what I am looking for then be done with it. Unfortuantly I can’t and it took me a semester of school to actually make myself concentrate, read every word and dig out the meaning of the book.
Is Google Making Us Stupid?
Last month felt longer than a normal August. It was full of tight deadlines and tons of stress. I was trying to move and finish the biggest website I have ever launched. I was building a new website for Fujifilm that features their Z10fd camera. It’s a multi-colored camera with awesome features for beaming and blogging. These features became the core concept of the site. On the home page you can choose your favorite color and it will carry through the site.
Choosing the colors is only part of the fun for the website. The site also had to promote the Z-Clip contest. Every month there is a theme to submit videos for and winners chosen at the end of each theme’s deadline. Sharpe Partners also built the Z-Clip editor which is a simple and intuitive movie editor that makes building a clip and uploading to the contest a breeze.
So let me know if you think the site is Off Z Hook (This is what we called the site, not me choosing of course) and submit a video. Submissions are a little slow in coming right now so the chances of winning are really high right now.
